Paradigm Shifts

It's cold and it's wet on this side of the world - No matter what the weather man forecasts it doesn't really change my outlook for tomorrow. OK, the winter rain does alter our moods and more so if one sits idle and you start visualising worst case scenarios. Of course, I have gone through that on many occasions in the past and...nothing really happened that I couldn't process. The worst case scenario which we often project in our minds, runs like an horror movie with scenes that make us sick with anxiety.
In times like these, switch on the TV and watch a Disney movie, appreciate the cinematography and live the fantasy rather than the anxiety. Remember, to fantisize is to be creative. Take your camera and fill those frames with what you think could be interesting. Start visualising and capturing images in your imagination even before you go out. Select a topic for the day and go out with high expectations. By triggering the imaginative fuctions of your mind, an abundance of ideas will most certainly flourish. Don't think of what others have done or produced on the subject that you have selected and dont try to reproduce what others have done. Originality refines your work and enhances your self esteem. Nothing pleases us more when we have accomplished those things that we always thought were beyond ou capabilities. See negative spaces as an opportunity to explore, crop the images and see results that will truly surprise you. A chain of events with imense forms of alternatives will flow from frame to frame. Naturally, lighting is vital but if need be select poorly lit subjects or macro images and thereafter tweek them in photoshop. Experimenting has moved mankind from the stone age to where we are today.
If you trend is sunsets and you keep shooting these, forget it and delete all those chocolate box images of under or overexposed sunsets. Go the other way and breakaway from monotony. Clear your mind of these and shift your ideas to other subjects but remain focused and most of all feel happy thinking that you are challenging yourself and that you will be producing new images.
Imagine if we all stayed static and happy shooting seascapes while others are being creatively artistic photographing nudes and others will be photographing colourful hot air balloons at the crack of dawn or perhaps shining aircraft on the tarmac at an air show.
Is it really difficult to understand the so called complexity and the attributes of evolution?
To adapt and to adopt a different strategy in our daily challenges will most certainly move us in the right direction. Evidently, there is no prescribed guarantee that the ultimate result will meet with your high expectations but these variable changes will eradicate bad habits and place you on the correct road to creativity. As days and seasons go by life will be presented in different forms - Unimaginable now but undeniably noticeable with gratifying results.
